Good morning once again! I got the new VCR last night - it was a breeze since I just had to turn in the excess DVD player. The new machine is a nice little Toshiba which gives a good, clear, sharp picture, just the thing for vidcapping, and I've got it set up so that it works fine with PowerVCR II on my computer. What I'd really like is to have two of those for dubbing, but that will have to wait for another time.

I have sorted out the opera-gloved pictures from the huge lots of clippings that I got last weekend, and expect to do some scanning today. Those cover five stars: Gina Lollobrigida, Ingrid Bergman, Jane Russell, Joan Collins and Brigitte Bardot.

Today's POTD is the great 1950's dancing star, Cyd Charisse, in her famous "Girl Hunt" sequence from "The Bandwagon" with Fred Astaire:

Good morning, everyone! I hope that all those of you who celebrate Christmas had a very fine one; I certainly did, and it was good to get away from the madding crowd for a few days. I'm back on duty now, and I'm getting ready to do the next update.

Much to my amusement, I got a second new DVD player for Christmas - but it turned out to be an exceptionally timely gift, because when I got home last night, collected another batch of movies that had come in for me, and tried to play some of them, I found out that my trusty old Fisher VCR refused to play any of them, and in fact, turned off stubbornly (and automatically) when I attempted. It's no great disaster, though, as I simply need to take back the DVD player I bought several weeks ago to Best Buy and trade it in for a new VCR; the DVD player I got yesterday is in place and working very satisfactorily. Thus, I hope to be able to start vidcapping again by tonight.

Getting back into the swing of things, as it were, today's POTD is the great 19th-century opera diva Adelina Patti in a most striking 1880's fashion shot emphasizing her snap-closed mousquetaires:
