The DNS problem is resolved. :) Comcast finally got off their duff and fixed what ailed the DNS, so when I checked just now, I got (for now) the most beautiful sight in the world, the front page of For the Love of Opera Gloves.
Now that everything - or just about everything (I'm still having some trouble with email) - is fixed, we can go back to our regular schedule of Pictures of the Day. I'm sorry to have to announce that all the POTD's prior to today are probably gone, because they point to slightly different URL's (that is, the upper-level directories on the old host were all in lower case, and on the new host, they're in mixed upper and lower case). Nothing for it but to post whole new POTD's.
Since I owe a week's worth of POTD's to you, let's get started. First off, here's a nice still of Anita Ekberg in the Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis movie "Hollywood or Bust":
All the non-vidcap image files, 1.3 GB worth, have now been uploaded to For the Love of Opera Gloves. I think we're back in business. :) I'm starting to upload the vidcaps now, I hope they should all be done by Monday. I'm still having trouble connecting to the domain name via Comcast, though I tested it via Earthlink a little while ago and it worked perfectly; I think there was an error in the relevant DNS change file that Comcast did. If anyone reading this is also on Comcast, please advise me if you are also having trouble accessing the website.
By the way, I owe six days' worth of POTD's so far. :) I'll post them at the next article, and hopefully by then I'll be able to view the site via Comcast.

Uploading continues! The Fashion and Modern collections are now fully uploaded, and Modernstars galleries are being re-posted to the site at this time. With luck, all the non-vidcap images should be back and working by tomorrow morning, and uploading of the vidcaps will be getting underway. I would like people to report in to me on how they're doing with accessing the website at its new nameservers. I'm still having trouble connecting via Comcast, but since other people report they're getting through OK, I have to conclude that Comcast just hasn't updated its DNS yet.
Uploading continues to the new host, not quite as quickly as I would expect, but it's ongoing. So far, the Brides, Classic, Classic Stars, Companion Girls (parts 1 and 2) and part of the Fashion collections have been posted. The Modern collection is being uploaded now. It's still going to take a while to get everything posted, but on the other hand, the new nameserver should propagate with the domain name today, so For the Love of Opera Gloves will be at least partially back in business by this evening, I expect. I still need to do some testing to make sure all the pages are reachable.

I've been uploading material to the new host since last evening. There've been some glitches along the way, but so far nearly 200 MB has been uploaded in about 11 hours - not too bad, considering. On cable upstream, the average upload speed ought to be about 50 MB/hour, so it's still going to take about two more days to get everything properly posted again. Watch this space for further updates.

Good evening, folks! I'm glad to report that I've found a new home for For the Love of Opera Gloves, at gothamserver.com. As soon as the login and password are activated on the FTP server, I will start uploading all the site files. It's a GOOD thing I have broadband now, or that would take all week - with luck, I should have everything in place by Saturday afternoon.
The catch is, hosting is going to be more expensive now. I got unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth, but I'm going to have to pay $24.95 per month (or $290 yearly). Therefore, once the site is back in business, I'd like to ask you to consider making donations for defraying the cost of hosting via Amazon or PayPal. Thank you in advance!

Folks, I'm beginning to lose hope about my current hosting provider. It's now been 48 hours and still no reply from them, and the site is still down. If I haven't had a reply from them by the time I get home from work this evening, I will have no choice but to find a new provider. I do apologize for the interruption in service.

I still have not heard from my hosting provider yet concerning the outage, and I'm beginning to get seriously concerned - so much so that I'm going to start looking for a new provider if I don't get a response by tomorrow. I would appreciate any recommendations for a good high-space, high-bandwidth, low-cost provider being sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com - firstname.lastname@example.org might no longer be working.
Right now, all I can tell you folks is that the server hosting the site still seems to be down. I will send more email to support immediately to call their attention to this fact, and see what can be done to get the site running again. It's basically out of my hands, though, and I'm just as frustrated as you all must be. I'm off to work this morning so I won't know how it all comes out until late this afternoon.

My apologies to anyone who has been having trouble trying to access the site this morning. The server which hosts the site seems to have been down since approximately 4:45 am Eastern this morning. I am attempting to contact the hosting company to see what's up. My guess is that the server is down for maintenance but I can't be 100% sure until I hear from them.
Boy, that broadband really is something. I wonder why I didn't switch before. (Yes, I know - it's a lame opening. Cut me a break, though - it's still before 5 in the morning and i'm kinda groggy. I've always been the early-rising type.) As I mentioned, my new high-speed connection will help me maintain the site because it'll be much easier for me now to upload things; indeed, I obtained six more movies to vidcap yesterday. (Yes, this is a plug for you good folks to help out by making contributions via PayPal or Amazon. :) )
Today's POTD is Deanna Durbin, the Canadian songbird who was a really big star in the 1940's. This photo postcard image shows her wearing a short-sleeved off-the-shoulder black blouse with long white gloves
As always, the complete Deanna collection can be viewed at The Deanna Durbin Glove Gallery.
Now, I'm going to go back onto eBay and forage for scans until I get sleepy again.
