I hereby declare the new Modern Section open to all visitors and newcomers. As I said yesterday, with the completion of reconstruction on this section, that concludes the reconstruction and reorganization of For the Love of Opera Gloves, saving only the vidcaps collection; that area will be updated on an ongoing basis as new vidcap collections are created to replace the old ones.
Please proceed to What's New at For the Love of Opera Gloves to view a complete list of the Modern Section galleries.
UPDATE STATUS: We're just about ready here, opera-glove aficionados. I'm re-uploading one directory now because it turns out it was previously uploaded with a name that won't resolve in HTML (spaces), so I'm re-doing it but that won't take too long and then I'll upload the index pages.
As everything else is ready, today's POTD is from the Modern section. Here's Lorraine Kelly, a modern-day British celebrity (doing what I'm not quite sure, to be sure; I believe it's something to do with TV, perhaps one of the GMA/Today-style shows called "breakfast TV" in the UK) in strapless yellow gown and white opera gloves:
British women wear opera gloves quite a lot, in fact; and it's a fact that the climate is well-suited for glovewearing. British Celebrities in Opera Gloves contains nearly 160 examples.

UPDATE STATUS: I had to leave work early again today because it turns out I'm still having problems from that bug I contracted last week. Went to see the doctor, and got some Cipro - yes, that Cipro - to treat it.
The good news, though, is that I've finally finished all the galleries and updated the indexes for the new update. I'm going to be uploading everything tonight - in fact, I believe I'll get started now, as soon as I've posted this. No telling how long it will take, it depends on the mood of the FTP server, but it will be officially posted by tomorrow.
UPDATE STATUSStill nothing new to report. However, I plan to work on it tonight so that it can be posted Saturday. It's been a busy week at work and I find I don't have a whole lot of energy when I get home in the evenings. Sounds like an excuse, but it isn't; the update is coming!
Today's POTD: Grace Kelly, later, of course, to be Princess Grace of Monaco, at the supreme moment of her Hollywood career, cradling the Best Actress Oscar for "The Country Girl" in her kid-encased hands:
The Grace Kelly Glove Gallery collection has some 200 photos of gloved Princess Grace in 5 gallery pages.

UPDATE STATUS: Not much new to report. To be honest, I didn't really get any work done last night, though I did finish uploading the portions I've already done. I'm contemplating slipping the formal "publishing" date a day or two to Saturday to give me more time to properly "label" the pictures with the names of the various stars, which is proving to be the time-consuming part of this work. If I get really pressed for time, I might just have to let that part go.
Today's POTD: some of you may have seen this portrait of Joan Fontaine in metallic-embroidered operas, a promo shot which appears to have been widely distributed by her studio. All the same, it's a beautiful portrait:
My collection of gloved images of Joan Fontaine is available at The Joan Fontaine Glove Gallery.

UPDATE STATUS: Chinese Celebs, Dutch Celebs, Soap Opera Queens, and Supermodels are done, another 7 galleries or so. I am going to see about uploading the completed portions today so that I won't have to worry about trying to get everything uploaded in one batch, as I have done (successfully) for the last couple of updates.
Today's POTD shows a popular brunette bombshell of the 1950's, Colleen Miller, offering an opera-gloved champagne toast:

Got the 70's/80's, 90's/00's, Spanish Celebs, and Wrestling Divas collections galleried up yesterday. I figure I'm a bit under halfway there, actually, and I'll do some more work tonight and probably upload what's done so far at that point also.
The POTD for today is Edwardian fashion. You are viewing an image of Lady Curzon, the wife of the British viceroy of India, in a Frederick Worth-designed gown in a photograph dating from 1902:
Over 600 images from the opulent Belle Epoque are on display at Opera Gloves in Late Victorian and Edwardian Fashion.

Just in case this is a duplicate post, my apologies - I think I might have hit the "publish" button on the wrong part of the page the last time I attempted to write this up. If we do have a duplicate, I'll just remove it.
First, today's status report: The thumbnails for the Modern Section update are complete; the next step is the construction of the actual gallery pages. This will require a fair bit of exacting work, because many of the images must be individually named.
Second, today's POTD is Mick Jagger's on-and-off-and-on-and-off-again main squeeze for most of the last two decades, Jerry Hall, vamping it up in black operas, black cape and white strapless gown at a fashion show:
Many more images of the long, lean, lovely Texan can be seen at The Jerry Hall Glove Gallery.

Good Sunday, opera-glove fans! Today is an important week, because I'm going to get underway with the last major phase of the reconstruction of For the Love of Opera Gloves (aside from the vidcap collections, of course) - the rebuilding of the Modern collections (80's Celebs, 90's celebs, B-Movie queens, beauty pageant contestants, various national galleries, singers, models, etc.) I intend to start work today so that I can (hopefully) get the update posted by Friday.
In the meantime, today's POTD is one of my favorite 1950's stars, Anita Ekberg, in a lovely, not-often-seen image in which she's sitting with a pensive expression on her face, chin cupped in one white-kid-encased hand:
The Anita Ekberg Glove Gallery, along with its two companion galleries, contains over 100 pictures of the voluptuous, cool-yet-fiery Swedish blonde in gloves of all length - mostly, of course, long!
